My new single ‘You Had Your Chance’ is here…
My new single You Had Your Chance is out right goddamn now!
I’m so excited for people to hear this song. This was my attempt to write an anthemic soul shouter, somewhere between Marvin Gaye and George Michael (with a bit stolen from Curtis Mayfield). The piano was inspired by “Right On” from What’s Going On but it really only came together when the incomparable Dennis Cassidy added his drums. Like a lot of my stuff, it’s a fun song about a very sad subject: trying to hold your resolve when you decide to walk away from a relationship. I may be a guy from Sligo, Ireland but when I’m belting this song in an upper register makes me feel like I’m in a basement in Detroit in the late 1960s. I don’t know if any of that will come across to the listener but I think you’ll enjoy it anyway.
Thank you to everyone who helped me put this together. From the great Nooneboy who designed the cover with me and Niamh Barry who took the incredibly sensual photographs to Dennis Cassidy who played the drums and percussion and to Christian Wright who mastered it at Abbey Road.
So many people have supported me in my musical adventures and none of it would be possible without m’wife Aoife, the great Michael Smyth and my good buddy Sam Jackson. Thanks for listening!
